My First Time Seeing The Nutcracker

My First Time Seeing The Nutcracker

This past weekend The Boston Ballet invited Emily and I to come and experience this year's performance of The Nutcracker.

It was her first time and only my second time going to the ballet and we had a great time.

Reimagined this year by Mikko Nissinen, it is a beautiful and elegant tale of the holiday dreams of a little girl who loves to dance.

The sets are fantastic, every dancer is stunning and the story is entertaining. While some of the whimsical humor known for in this story is missing in this interpretation it highly entertaining. If you are looking to go out and do something with the family this year, you'd be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable time than this.

The Nutcracker is a holiday tradition for a lot of families and I can't believe it took me until now to actually see it. It was more fun than I would have imagined and I was blown away by the intricate and beauty of the sets. As someone who has built more than my share of theater sets it was a thrill to be taken back stage to see them up close.

If you want to see a performance this year, you need to buy tickets today. Performances only run until the end of the year.

Emily and I turned it into a Daddy & Daughter date. We grabbed brunch before the show and afterwards had our first peppermint mochas of the season together. It was great to have a whole day to ourselves like this and I don't think she has stopped smiling from the whole experience. She loves being on stage and who knows, maybe some day she'll be on that stage.
