Do You Have a Creative Calling?

Do You Have a Creative Calling?

Seth Godin recently said about creative people:

“There’s just one way to become one: Do something creative. It’s a little bit like leaders. What they have in common is that they lead. Simply begin.”

It truly is that simple and harder than most imagine it ever could be.

Since I took my first breath, I’ve had a creative calling. I’ve always enjoyed creating whether in my kitchen, nature or a classroom. The tools in my hands may change from crayons to cameras to a keyboard, but I’m always creating.

Chase Jarvis has a new book dropping next week called Creative Calling: Establish a Daily Practice, Infuse Your World With Meaning, and Succeed in Work + Life.

I was fortunate enough to receive a free early copy of the book and after reading it, I can confidently tell you that it is a must read for anyone who is craving a structure and playbook on how to take those creative juices flowing through you and do more with them in the world.

Let Chase tell you more about the book in this video he filmed for me:

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a believer in magic formulas or listicles on how to hack your way to success. 99.99% of them are total crap and not worth your time.

From the moment I first discovered Chase and began following his work and art I could tell that one of the reasons I liked him is how hard he works. It was an honor for me to work with him and his staff on a CreativeLive class in the early days and I still take classes there myself from time to time today.

Creative Calling lays out a four step process of imagine, design, execute, and amplify that anyone can follow to help them create more. It will inspire you to get off your ass and do something, but it can’t do the work for you. Only YOU can do the work to be successful in life, work, and play.

This book is not another social media guru/influencer trying to sell their wares to you. Chase is a serial entrepreneur and artist who has worked hard to build, produce, and create ever day of his adult life. He shares what works for him and encourages you to find patterns and structures that work for you.

I appreciated that the book focuses on your body, mind and soul. Chase knows that nothing is given to you and that nothing comes quick or easy. You could create the most beautiful thing, but if you haven’t built a community to help you amplify and share it then no one else might see it.

Creative Calling is not a book only for artists, photographers or those of us who doodle endlessly in notebooks. It is for anyone who wants to be inspired to live a life that more resembles what they crave in their heart and soul. To figure out what is that gives you meaning and how to go about making that into something you move towards every day.

I’m fortunate enough to call Chase Jarvis a buddy these days, but he has been a big inspiration to me for years. I always hoped he would write a book like this and now you and the world gets to read it and be inspired too.

Creative Calling is available wherever books are sold. If you are debating where to buy it from, go to your local independent book seller and ask them to order you a copy. If you buy one or more copies, Chase has some cool bonuses for you including a free CreativeLive class.

I’d write more, but I need to go create!
