Menu, Build and Minimize in 2013
A new year has dawned and none of us know what 2013 holds. As I encouraged everyone to do in Amazing Things Will Happen, I've been going through the three word exercise to focus myself for the new year.
For some reason it was harder than usual for me. Might be due to the fact that I came up with a longer initial list than in years past and thus narrowing it down to only three was a bigger challenge. But, I found the words and I now have the focus to make 2013 the year I need it to be.
My three words for 2013 are Menu, Build and Minimize.
Menu
I do all the cooking in my house and things have become a bit boring lately.
My plan is to try at least one new recipe weekly and to plan out our menu a week at a time instead of the last minute way I've been doing lately. I've already pinned some to try and will finally go through all my cookbooks to find others.
But, this is about more than food.
All of the menus in my life need some variety thrown into the mix so that I don't get bored of the same old, same old. I feel like I've grown too comfortable and need to shake things up a bit.
Ze Frank recently talked about this and it was a good reminder for me. Getting comfortable can mean growing static and I don't want that to happen.
Build
The Cleon Foundation is now a reality and I must set it up to be the organization I've always dreamed it would become. That is going to take a lot of hard work, making mistakes and learning, but I'm committed to building it.
I've also come to realize that I haven't done enough to build platforms for all my various projects and it is about time I do that. Sure, I'm constantly creating and sharing, but there needs to be more to maintain what I do. Close friends keep asking when I'm going to start selling some of what is up in my head and 2013 is the year I start doing that.
Finally, I haven't been able to shake the desire to do more with my hands. A yurt in the woods? A creation on my workbench? I'm not sure what yet, but I need to get my hands dirty and feet outside of my office more.
Minimize
I've embraced the pack light go fast approach to travel. For most quick trips, my GORUCK GR1 or GR2 is enough to carry everything I need and I've been much happier on the road because of it.
But, we've all got too much clutter in our lives and looking around my office I can see some things I don't need anymore. I want to slim down my entire life because less equals more. It'll be a challenge and won't be easy, but I firmly believe it is needed.
This isn't just about physical objects though. It is also about making sure that my attention is focused on what matters and minimizing the digital noise and clutter that I've accumulated. This past year I've spent too much time lost in the clickstream for no benefits and that needs to stop.

There you have it. My #3Words for 2013.
I've already seen Chris Penn's words and I'm eager to see what other friends and strangers decide to focus on and share. If you do, leave a link in the comments so that myself and others can find them.
I hope that 2013 brings each of you what you work towards. Enjoy ever day to the fullest!
