Personal Effects: Dark Art

J.C. Hutchins is a good friend of mine. He is also one twisted, demented and talented writer. His 7th Son novels still have me craving more and if Hollywood doesn't turn them into a movie someday they are missing out on a huge summer blockbuster guaranteed to bring in the big bucks.

Personal Effects Cover

I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of Personal Effects: Dark Art which will hit store shelves in a couple of weeks. While I love my Kindle, it is books like this that insure that printed books are never going to go away. You'll have to pick up a copy to see what I mean, but the whole style and printing is as much a part of the story as the written words are. Trust me and order a copy today.

To try and and give you a plot synopsis would be pointless because I don't want to give anything away. Just know that this is one part CSI, two parts Fringe, a dash of X-Files with a healthy dose of Sneakers and a dash of Suicide Girls thrown in for good measure. I was expecting more of a psychological thriller and wasn't ready for an almost crime drama, but it all worked together. Plus any story that takes place in a Psych Ward is going to make for a good time.

As with most good books, it was over far to fast and left many open questions and possibilities for more books because it only scraped the surface of all the characters and got me interested in all of them. Hutch has a way of giving you just enough back story and little details about every character that you crave more while you fall in love with them. Best part is that JC is already making this happen by releasing an audio book prequel called Personal Effects: Sword of Blood that you can subscribe to now.

I think this is a book that most anyone could get into and enjoy. If you've ever enjoyed something by Steven King or James Patterson then you are definitely going to dig this book. Certainly not for the little ones though unless you want them to have nightmares and suddenly become scared of the dark.

I'm truly blessed to have friends like Hutch and I hope a lot of people buy this book and make writing a full time career for him. He deserves it!
