2008 Goals

I'm not a huge fan of resolutions. I prefer to think of them as goals for the year. Some with dates. Clear cut measures of success. But, whatever you call them, I am big on pausing, reflecting and then looking forward with full steam. I especially like to look back at previous years lists to see what I did achieve and what I didn't. It is good to look at failures and figure out why I couldn't make them happen. So what is on my list for 2008? Ready to Roll with The Advance Guard Mentally I wasn't prepared for the formation of The Advance Guard at the end of last year. Mentally I was prepared to be a freelancer and then things shifted. Steve and I have had a great few months of the company, but in 2008 it is time to take it to the next level. To really build it up as a brand, work with great clients and have fun doing it all. It is a large part of who I am and thus it will be a lot of my mental focus in the coming months to grow the business and the brand.

Challenge My Photography I've got the camera and take pictures that people seem to enjoy, but I really want to take it to another level. I don't fully know my camera yet and I want to. I want to try new types of pictures, shoot in new locations and all around play more with the photography to make it better. I'm also hoping to take one of the great courses that Chris from Tips From The Top Floor teaches.

Speak More Outside of the Fishbowl I realized that I was speaking to the same people over and over and while that is fun, I wanted to break out and speak to people who know nothing about new media, who I am or what I do. Already I've got speaking engagements in Baltimore and Little Rock to groups of people that will be just figuring out this space and I can't wait to help them learn more about it.

Host a House Concert I've always loved the concept of house concerts ever since my friend Tom Acousti mentioned them to me. But, our old house didn't have enough room for one. Our new one certainly does and thus I want to host at least one of them.

Write, Write, Write My biggest failure of last year was not getting my book finished. This was because I did not make the time for it and make it a priority and I need to change that. I need to write more. A little each day. A lot when possible.

There are a few others, but those are the main ones. Those are the ones I'm going to strive and push for.

2007 was a great year. I achieved more then I would have thought at the beginning of the year and I want to make 2008 an even better year. Forward ho!
